And they went after them unto Jordan: and, lo, all the way was full of garments and vessels, which the Syrians had cast away in their haste. And the messengers returned, and told the king.
So they followed the Syrian army's trail all the way to the Jordan River, and look, the entire road was scattered with clothes and equipment that the Syrians had thrown away as they fled in panic. The messengers came back and reported everything to the king.
The messengers confirmed that the Syrian army had indeed fled in such terror that they left behind all their belongings scattered along the escape route.
📚 Historical Context
In the biblical account of 2 Kings 7, the city of Samaria was under siege by the Syrian army during a time of divided kingdoms in Israel, leading to a severe famine that left the people desperate. Four lepers ventured into the enemy camp and discovered it abandoned because God had supernaturally caused the Syrians to hear noises and flee in terror, thinking a rescue army was approaching. When the king's messengers followed the path to the Jordan River, they found evidence of the hasty retreat in the form of discarded garments and vessels.
